Laurent Pelly’s hilarious production stars Natalie Dessay as the tomboy Marie, who has been brought up as the “daughter of the regiment,” and Juan Diego Flórez as the young man in love with her. Dazzling coloratura, including Flórez’s nine high Cs in his act-one aria, meets perfect comic timing. Legendary actress Marian Seldes makes a special appearance as the Duchess of Krakenthorp and Marco Armiliato conducts. Running Time: 3 hours 10 minutes; 1 intermission. Stoltz Listening Room Show
Gretchen Richie

Thursday, July 14, 2011
$20
Though she’s headlined at DC’s Blues Alley, and performed at such far-flung locales as Palm Springs, CA, Palm Beach, FL, and St. Amour, France, Gretchen is most famous in Southern Maryland, where she’s performed at the prestigious Café des Artistes for over 11 years. By definition not a pure jazz singer (no scatting or be-bop), nor a cabaret singer (no feather boas or clever ditties), still, Jazz Cabaret seems a perfect description of Gretchen’s style. Her repertoire of classic jazz standards, bossa nova, pop, folk and Broadway songs are set to jazz arrangements and delivered with warmth, personality and inspiration – but always true to the composers’ intent and always embracing the message in the lyric. As one reviewer put it, "Gretchen doesn't make songs larger than life. Instead she makes them exactly life-size, just the right dimensions to create genuine human warmth. She doesn't take you to the mountaintop; she finds where you are.” Gretchen is accompanied by Randy Richie’s rich, accessible style on keyboard, James Fowler’s in-the-pocket bass lines, and Easton’s own Fred Suss on drums. Stoltz Listening Room Show
Ari Hest
$20
Saturday, July 30 at 8pm

Ari Hest has vocal chops that demand attention, and he knows it.  With a road paved for him by singer-songwriters such as John Mayer and Jason Mraz, Bronx native Hest delivers a winning collection of acoustic guitar-based pop-rock, full of buoyant melodies and thoughtful lyrics that far surpass most of his contemporaries.  Since parting with Columbia Records several years ago, Hest has worked hard to establish himself as an independent artist. He played more than 150 shows last year.  Not only is Hest a superb songwriter he is also a technician of sound, which will match perfectly with the acoustically pleasing Stoltz Listening Room.  His latest album, “The Break In” is receiving great reviews on the national level.

Hest is in possession of one of the most rich and supple voices to be found today.  Those rich vocals and some of the prettiest and most delicate guitar work a music fan could hope to hear appear at in The Stoltz Listening Room this summer.Buy Tickets Now!
